Winterizing Aspen Shores HOA Irrigation

Filter on Perry Lane

  • Remove filter and clean it.
  • Ensure shut off valve is left in open position
  • Loosen nut on downhill side of automatic valve (by elbow in line) and leave it that way so any residual water drains out.
  • Remove the timer if 9 volt battery is due to be changed (every other year)

Drains for drip lines near Perry/Mikayla/Akamai Way intersection

  • Open these by turning them parallel to the line they are hooked to. Water usually will start to fill the box indicating you have turned them far enough.

Filter at the base of hillside below DeLong property on Blue Heron Drive

  • Ensure valve is left open (small circular box)
  • Remove filter and clean at home (clean thoroughly between discs)
  • Open the faucet in the box with the auto control valve & timer & leave it open.
  • Remove timer if battery needs replacing.

Filter adjacent to corner of lower RV lot on Blue Heron Drive

  • Ensure timer valve is left open.
  • Loosen the hose connector at end of the timer valve.
  • Remove the filter and clean at home.
  • Open circular ground box to ensure ball valve is left in open position, then remove threaded plug to allow water to drain. Loosely replace plug so insects don’t crawl into the line in the winter.

Green covered box below McGill home on Blue Heron

  • Inside the box turn the ball valve to an open position (drains the line supplying Blue Heron Dr.)

Filter on Aspen Shores Drive by upper RV lot

  • Remove and clean filter
  • Open both auto valves manually and leave open.
  • Open faucet in second box so lines drain via gravity.

Other procedures

  • Open the ball valve for the flush line on the big red filter at the top of Akamai Way and leave open.
  • The box by the big red filter has a stop and waste valve at the bottom. I haven’t closed this valve to drain it because it is 3 1/2 feet down. Also the HOA has no device to reach the gate valve. In the past I borrowed the device from my old place of employment. The several times I did manage to open it, no water came out. The pipe was already empty.
  • The wire on the filter screen up in our box on the ditch bank requires a new screen before the 2020 Irrigation season next April.
